During the post-WW2, Cold War era, the United States was faced with the task of explaining atomic science to the population as well as utilizing fission for peaceful purposes. This was no small task considering the highly classified nature of atomic weaponry, as well as the obvious destructive power such weaponry could unleash, making the proposition of peaceful uses for atomic energy a difficult "sell" to a fearful population. This guide, published circa 1956, is an example of educational materials that were prepared for use in secondary schools and colleges. From a smoke-free, pet-friendly home.
