1952 Galena Illinois Telephone Book IL Directory Phone Taverns

This is an original February, 1952 Telephone Directory from Galena, Illinois published by the Illinois Bell Telephone Company. The book measures 6-1/8" x 9-1/4" and has 36 pages. The top half of the pages have alphabetical residential & business listings and the bottom half of the pages have classified ads and business listings (like the yellow pages). This business section includes ads for local restaurants, stores, taverns, etc. (Though I have to question the placement of a "High Cash Paid for Dead Animals" by the Galena Rendering Company ad right above a restaurant ad for the Colonial Inn.) The booklet is in good condition, except for a 2" x 3" light stain in the lower right hand corner that causes some light wrinkling to the bottom right of the cover and pages - the pages are lightly yellowed with age - "Ruth Claassen" is written in the upper left corner of the front cover - the upper right hand corner of the cover and pages has a small bend. A NICE PIECE OF GALENA HISTORY AND WOULD MAKE A GREAT GIFT FOR SOMEONE WHO LIVED THERE DURING THAT TIME! First class postage is .00 Telephone directories are great tools for genealogy research - they list who lived in the town and what businesses were there at a specific time.
